(301)975-3690. The Department of Commerce and the Federal Interagency
Council on Metric Policy present the fifth of six regional Metric
Dialogues November 15-16, 1996, at San Jose State University's School
of Engineering Auditorium in San Jose, California. At each meeting,
participants have the opportunity to hear from experts on the benefits
of using the metric system to increase our global competitiveness,
commercialize new technologies, and enhance the job skills of America's
workforce. Open discussions will probe critical metrication issues. The
meetings build on the key themes--trade, education, and public
awareness--that emerged from the first National Metric Town Meeting
held at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) March
27-28, 1995. A subsequent Metric Dialogue will be held on January
