The system will provide long range target detection and far target location at stand-off ranges which are beyond the effective range of enemy direct fire weapons. The LRAS3 design will not preclude accomodation of additional sensor technology. The technical requirements will be defined in the Statement of Work and the Performance Specification. It is the Government's intent to utilize Non-Developmental Items (NDI) to the greatest extent possible. The Government intends to award a Cost-Plus-Award-Fee (CPAF) type contact for the development of six (6) prototype systems with a CPAF option for Low Rate Initial Production (LRIP) of ten (10) systems. The Government will utilize oral proposals and Cost as an Independent Variable (CAIV) on the LRAS3 EMD solicitation. Further information will be contained in the RFP.
