336-4645. The Los Angeles Chapter of the Armed Forces Communications
and Electronics Association (AFCEA) is sponsoring the 1996 MILSATCOM
Symposium on Tues. and Wed. Nov. 19-20, at The Aerospace Building (A-8)
on Los Angeles Air Force Base (LAAFB) in El Segundo. The theme of the
symposium is ``Meeting MILSATCOM Challenges with Emerging Commercial
Systems: Bridging Two Visions.'' The conference will offer highlights
of the rapidly evolving use of commercial technology in the streamlined
acquisition environment of military requirements. Topics for the
symposium include: Vulnerabilities of Commercial Satellites, Role of
JCS in Space, Defense Wide SATCOM, Armed Forces Requirements, CONOPS
and Future Direction, the Joint Warfighters Interoperability
Demonstration (JWID) 1996 results and a panel on Military Integrated
Satellite Communication Studies (MISCS). Invited speakers include Mr.
Robert Davis, Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Space, Major
General Douglas Buchholz, USA, Commander, US Army Signal Center, and
Major General Robert Dickman, USAF, OSD Space Architect. Col Joseph
Sovey, USAF, the MILSATCOM Joint Program Director, will moderate the
MISCS panel. Panel members include senior executives from AT&T, Hughes
Space and Communications, Space Systems Loral, TRW and the Advanced
Programs of the MILSATCOM Joint Program Office. The speakers are highly
distinguished in their respective fields and will provide interesting
and credible perspectives in the area of commercial systems
applications to MILSATCOM. A demonstration is scheduled on the Joint
Broadcasting System (JBS) and its military application. The JBS is
currently in use in Bosnia by our military. Lt General Albert Edmonds
has accepted the invitation to speak at the banquet scheduled for the
evening of the 19th at the Hilton. For individuals interested in
additional offerings, a two day review of MILSATCOM technological
lectures and presentations follows the symposium, on Thurs. and Fri.
Nov. 21-22. All military, commercial and aerospace companies are
invited to attend. Membership in AFCEA is not required for attendance.
A security clearance must be submitted with the registration form. The
Los Angeles Airport Hilton and Towers on West Century Boulevard will
have special conference rates. Contact the hotel directly prior to Nov.
5, and specify the AFCEA Conference when making reservations. Shuttles
from the Hilton and LAAFB will be available on Nov. 19-20 only.
