COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF NOVEMBER 18,1996 PSA#1723National Institute of Standards and Technology, Acquisition and
Assistance Division, Building 301, Room B117, Gaithersburg, MD 66 -- VIBROMETER SOL 53SBNB760023 DUE 120996 POC Trena N. Bercaw,
(301) 975-6324 The National Institute of Standards and Technology
(NIST) requires one non-contacting, laser based vibrometer
(velocimeter) to monitor and record the instantaneous velocity of a
large vibrating monochromator which sits inside an evacuated chamber
(neutron flight path). The monochromator is a light-weight composite of
graphite fibers that weighs less than 0.9 Kg. It spans 52.3 cm
horizontally and 27.9 cm vertically. The monochromator surface is
spherically curved (concave) to a radius of 211.8 cm. The monochromator
is covered with chemically etched silicon wafers which can reflect
laser light. The displacement amplitude of the monochromator,
perpendicular to its surface, is fixed at +/- 4.5cm. The top speed of
the monochromator will reach 9 meters/second at a frequency of 25 Hz.
The resultant maximum acceleration will be 109 g. The vibrometer must
have a resolution better than 0.001%. Because the monochromator will be
situated within a strong neutron beam, it is desirable to keep the
vibrometer system entirely outside the flight path. Because the
required vibrometer is laser based, a small mirror can be installed
within the flight path and used to reflect the laser light through an
optical port. The required delivery time is 90 days after receipt of
order. The FOB Point shall be Destination, Gaithersburg, Maryland. All
responsible vendors may submit a quotation. Please fax or mail in all
requests for a Request For Quotation Package. Fax Number (301)
