66 -- AEROLOGICAL SOUNDING BALLOONS DUE 120296 POC Betty L Morris (816) 426-7267 ext.234 The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Weather Service (NWS) is seeking industry comments on a Draft Specification and Test Plan for High Modulous Aerological Sounding Balloons. These balloons will be used to support the radiosonde upper air observing network of the NWS. This network is composed of 106 sites which cover the coterminous United States, Alaska, the Caribbean, and parts of the Pacific. Additionally, the network collects profiles of temperature, pressure, relative humidity, wind speed, and wind direction from surface to heights exceeding 30 kilometers. Profiles are collected by use of hydrogen or helium filled balloons carrying radiosondes. All parties interested in reviewing and commenting on the Draft Specification and Test Plan must submit a written request no later than December 2, 1996 to the U.S. Department of Commerce, NOAA, Central Administrative Support Center, Acquisition and Logistics Division, Contracts Branch, CC31, Room 1756, 601 East 12th Street, Kansas City, Missouri 64106, Attn: Betty L. Morris. The government will not award a contract as a result of this CBD announcement.
