The Naval Medical Logistics Command has a requirement for 80 Field Anesthesia Machines (FAM) with options for an additional 820 machines. FAMS shall be portable, permitting use of closed (low flow), semi-closed and open anesthesia techniques. The units shall consist of the following major components: Carbon Dioxide (CO2) absorber, oxygen (O2) analyzer, ventilator and vaporizer. The units shall meet current American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Standards for Anesthesia Machines. Prior to award, the units shall be Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved for full, unrestricted use in the United States. FAMs shall be designed such that consumable and other materials that deteriorate (e.g., batteries) shall be stored in a non-installed position to prevent damage but still be available for testing of the system.
