(404) 842-6786 The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
contemplates awarding a contract to develop and conduct, in the year
2000, the second School Health Policies and Programs Study (SHPPS
2000). The focus of the study shall be to design, conduct, and report
on a national study of school health policies and programs in grades
kindergarten through twelve. The study shall identify the extent to
which school policies and programs address six categories of behavior
related to the leading causes of morbidity, mortality, and social
problems among youth and adults: behavior that contributes to
intentional and unintentional injuries; tobacco use; alcohol and other
drug use; sexual behavior that results in unintended pregnancy and
sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV infection; dietary
behavior; and physical activity. The study shall also provide data to
help monitor relevant National Health Promotion and Disease Prevention
Objectives and National Education Goals. The scheduled issue date of
the RFP (Request for Proposals) is approximately December 12, 1996. The
period of performance shall be approximately forty-three (43) months
and the Government anticipates making award on or before June 1, 1997.
