being circulated in accordance with Article 10.6. G/TBT/Notif.96.408.

Fruit jams, jellies and marmalades and chestnut puree. 5. Title, number
of pages and language(s) of the notified document: Proposal for a
Council Directive Relating to Fruit Jams, Jellies and Marmalades and
Chestnut Puree Intended for Human Consumption (5 pages, 11 languages).
6. Description of content: The proposal is based on a common
structure, consisting of an operative part followed by an Annex. The
operative part contains, inter alia, provisions on the scope of the
proposal and labelling requirements. The Annex contains the definitions
and designations of the products in question and details of their
composition. 7. Objective and rationale: The objective of this proposal
for a directive is to define certain products, to provide for
appropriate designations and to lay down common rules on composition,
manufacturing methods, and labelling so that these products can move
freely within the European Community. These proposals simplify the
existing Directives applicable to the products in question. 8. Relevant
