SOLICITATION FOR INFORMATION OR PLANNING PURPOSES. (APR 1984) the
Library of Congress requests comments from the vendors regarding its
efforts to acquire an integrated library system (ILS) to support
acquisitions, bibliographic control, inventory control, serials
management, circulation, binding and preservation, public and staff
searching of the Library's bibliographic records, access to other
databases including digital repositories and databases of electronic
text resources, as well as management statistics and reporting.
Respondents to this Request for Comment (RFC97-1) can retrieve the
appropriate documents from an anonymous FTP host at ftp.loc.gov
(140.147.69). Logon to the server using ''anonymous'' as the account
name, and your Internet address as the password. Change directory to
the public directory by entering cd pub, and change directories again
to the ils directory by entering cd ils. Set binary mode by entering
bin, and get the following documents: ilsrfc.doc (statement of work in
WordPerfect 5.1 format) and ilsrfc.cov for the cover letter with
instructions to the offerors. Upon written request to the Contracting
Officer, the Library will provide a disk containing these documents in
WordPerfect 5.1 format via mail. Comments from respondents are due by
02/03/97 and should be delivered to Kaye Klinker, The Library of
Congress, Contracts & Logistics Services, 1701 Brightseat Road,
Landover, MD 20785 or sent vie email to bdul@loc.gov. A conference with
all interested parties is scheduled for Friday, 01/17/97. Attendance at
the meeting is not required, but will provide an opportunity to tour
the Library, assess the size and complexity of the procurement, and ask
questions regarding the Statement of Work. Those wishing to attend the
conference should contact Ms. Klinker by 01/03/97. The time and place
for the meeting will be provided at that time. Specific questions or
issues that prospective respondents would like to see addressed at the
meeting should be sent to Ms. Klinker by 01/06/97. The Library expects
to issue an RFP as early as March 1997. All comments received shall be
considered proprietary and confidential as shall be distributed t only
