MARKET SURVEY/SOURCES SOUGHT ONLY. NASA/JSC plans to issue a Request
for Offer (RFO) for one 5-Axis Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC)
Milling Machine. The machining center be capable of spindle speeds
between 40 -- 6000 rpm plus 2,000 to 21,000 rpm. Also the is must
consists of the followings: 1) fully programmable 5-axes/5-sided
machining capability, 2) Automatic Low and High-Speed machining with
spindle speed ranging between 40 RPM and 21,000 RPM, 3) Programmable
feed rates of at least 700 inch per minute, 4) work surface of
66.9"X137.8" with 5 longitudinal, center precision T-slots with
precision key way, 5) machining range -- X-axis travel 157.5", Y-axis
travel 115.0", Y-axis working 100", Z-axis travel 39.4", 6) width
between columns 95.2", 7) rapid traverse 787 inch per minute, 8)
spindle motor power -- 30 hp continuous/MTDR 40 hp, 9) CAT 50 Tooling,
10) positioning accuracy for X, Y, Z axes will be +/- 0.0002"/39.4",
and for C and A axes will be +/- 10 sec, 11) repeatabilityfor X, Y, Z
axes will be +/- 0.00006", and for C and A axes will be +/- sec, 12)

Tool changer with 45 tool storage, spindle probe, torque controlled
machining capability, automatic tool recovery capability, extra probe

features, 23) full documentation including maintenance, operations, and
parts manuals, 24) training for 10 operators at JSC, and 25) a one year

is being conducted under the NASA/JSC MidRange Pilot Test Program
approved by the Office of Federal Procurement Policy on April 16, 1993.
All responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered
by the agency. An ombudsman has been appointed to hear concerns from
offers and potential offerors during the preaward and postaward phases
of this acquisition. The purpose of the ombudsman is not to diminish
the authority of the contracting officer, the Source Evaluation Board,
or the selection official, but to communicate concerns, issues,
disagreements, and recommendations of interested parties to the
appropriate Government personnel and to work to resolve them. When
requested, the ombudsman will maintain strict confidentiality as to the
source of the concern. The ombudsman does not participate in the
evaluation of proposals, the source selection process, or the
ajudication of formal contract disputes. Interested parties are invited

Concerns, issues, and disagreements which cannot be resolved at the
installation may be referred to the NASA ombudsman, Tom Luedtke at

procurement will be available over the Internet. These documents will
be in RTF format and will reside on a World-Wide Web (WWW) server,
which may be accessed using client browsers, such as, MOSAIC or
