Research Engineering and Development Center is conducting MARKET
RESEARCH to identify commercial sources for an Alternate Wear Hot
Weather Boot (AWHWB) to be worn in all areas of the world, all terrains
and climates, except cold nd extreme cold. The intent of this program
is not to replace the current hot weather boot, MIL-B-43454 but to
provide a commercial off-the shelf boot that the soldier can purchase
in lieu of the standard boot when mission requirements do not require
full ompliance with MIL SPEC performance of the 'jungle boot'. The
AWHWB will be black, water resistant, and quick drying. The AWHWB will
fit the 5th percentile female through the 95th percentile male
soldier, and have a lightweight breathable upper with a comfort collar.
The sole must be nonsparking, nonmarking, replaceable, and will provide
cushioning and flexibility. The sole shall provide traction equal to or
better han that of the current hot weather boot. The boot will have a
combination of eyelets and speed lace rings that are compatible with
airborne and vehicle operations. The AWHWB shall have a minimum service
life of 120 days, minimum shelf life of five years, nd have removable
molded cushion inserts. The boot will resist petroleum, oil, and
lubricants; resist mold and fungus growth; and provide the same degree
of flame resistance as the standard boot. A pair of 9R(M) boots should
weigh no more than 2.5 pounds (plus or minus 0.5 pounds/pair to
accommodate the size range). The boot should be eight inches in height
(plus or minus 0.5 inches to accommodate the size ange) as measured
from the bottom of the heel cup. Please forward product literature,
