(303) 969-2755. The National Park Service (NPS) is implementing a
transportation system within Zion National Park and the gateway
community of Springdale, Utah. The transportation system should be
fully operational by Spring 1999. The transportation system will
consist of two routes: one route within the Park and the other in
Springdale. The Park route will consist of a power unit plus trailer.
The Springdale route will consist of a power unit only. Power units for
both routes will be interchangeable. Approximately 32 power units and
20 trailers will be required. Specific Requirements: Power unit-overall
length 25-40 ft (not including hitch); trailer-overall length 25-30 ft;
overall height 135 inches maximum; overall width 8-8.5 feet;
trailer-two axle with both axles steered; power unit seating capacity
25-30 passengers/seated (minimum); trailer unit seating capacity 30-35
passengers/seated; ADA compliant-low floor or wheelchair lift; fast
boarding and exiting times; public address system-electronic system for
sound.Views-Important. Large/operable (with safety rail); maximum view
both horizontal and vertical. Skylights are preferred if possible.
Fuel type-propane; air conditioning-not needed; fiberglass seats. Units
must be able to operate under existing roads and terrain at Zion
National Park. We are asking for comments from manufacturers on the
availability or ability to provide the power units and trailers meeting
some or all of the listed bus requirements. Lead time plus prices for
budgetary purposes should be addressed. Please forward your comments to
