Officer, KEVIN KING, Contracting Officer, (202) 767-2550. The Naval
Research Laboratory (NRL) has a requirement for research and
development in the area of Bio/Molecular Science and Engineering which
includes expertise in the following areas: Physics, Biology,
Chemistry, Engineering, and Administrative Services. The principle
objectives of the required research and development effort are to: 1)
fabricate and design optical and electrode-based bio-sensors, 2)
research membrane biophysical chemistry and self-assembly of
microstructures for advanced materials, 3) study methods of dry state
preservation of blood cellar components to include in vitro testing,
and new material and methods to accelerate the healing of soft and hard
tissue injury including in vitro testing, 4) design microwave devices,
ultramicroelectrodes and electron emitters based on metallized
composites and patterned assembly for advanced materials using liquid
crystals and colloids, 5) explore selective patterning and application
of biological materials (protein, cells) on solid substrates, 6)
synthesis and characterization of liquid crystal materials, 7)
investigate processes for lithography and pattering for high resolution
imaging, 8) use genetic engineering to research biomaterials, 9)
synthesis and development of novel materials for separation, and 10)
perform literature searches, organize and execute technical review
programs, create graphics, etc. for publishing. The research shall be
perform on-site at the NRL. The anticipated period of performance will
be for a period of sixty (60) months. It is anticipated that a cost
