SSCNC-IP (Site Code DAAK60) Commercially available sources are being
sought. The U.S. Army Natick Research, Development, and Engineering
Center is conducting a MARKET INVESTIGATION to compile a list of
companies who are developing concepts, currently producing, or have
available laser/ballistic protective eyewear in various configurations
including goggles and/or spectacles. The spectacles must have a
prescription carrier capability and the goggles must have a
prescription carrier capability and/or be compatible with current
military prescription eyewear. Eyewear must be available with several
lenses: a clear lens, a sunglass lens, and a laser protective lens.
Lenses need not be interchangeable with the frame/carrier. The laser
lens must afford protection at the maximum number of wavelengths while
at the same time allowing maximum transmittance. All lenses must
afford ballistic protection as well. Eyewear must be suitable for use
in a military environment in all environmental extremes and be
compatible with military clothing and equipment. Firms must provide
technical information that demonstrates that they have the capability
to perform the type of work described above either in-house or by
subcontract. If by subcontract, the firm should identify, when
possible, the name of the subcontractor and provide technical
information from that subcontractor. Potential government purchase of
laser/ballistic protective eyewear will be subject to Subpart 225 of
the Department of Defense supplement to the Federal Acquisition
Regulation and the note following 10 USC 2341, if applicable (also
known as the Berry Amendment). There is no restriction on any domestic
company, foreign company, or foreign country submitting information
for the purposes of this Market Investigation. For the purposes of any
further effort beyond this Market Investigation, information on
specific laser threats of concern to the Army is classified, therefore
the offeror must have a facility approved for handling classified
information. Foreign contractor participation must be submitted thru
the foreign country's embassy in Washington, D.C., England, Germany,
France, Canada, and Australia, through active agreements, are cleared
for participation in any classified effort. Organizations in countries
other than those listed above, however, can submit information but
should be aware that a response is not guaranteed. Interested offers
must, within thirty (30) days following the publication of this
synopsis, respond with information on their product(s). Information
should include proposed or actual item descriptions and illustrations
which detail concept or design and any performance or test data.
Information should identify the specific laser protective technology.
Firms responding should indicate whether or not they are a small
business. The size standard for this industry (SIC 3851) is 500
employees. Any information submitted will not be returned. Samples are
desired but not required. THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS. No
