ext. 328 Family Health International (FHI), under Contract No.
N01-AI-35173 with the Vaccine Trials and Epidemiology Branch, Division
of AIDS, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases,
National Institutes of Health, is soliciting proposals from
organizations for international sites capable of conducting clinical
trials of vaccine and non-vaccine interventions for HIV prevention.
Proposals are sought for sites to conduct randomized, controlled trials
of chemical (microbicides) and physical barriers to sexual transmission
of HIV, interventions to prevent perinatal transmission of HIV,
behavioral interventions with HIV incidence as a primary outcome,
preventive vaccine candidates, and sites to study the relationship
between hormonal contraceptive use and HIV acquisition, and to evaluate
other innovative approaches. Other innovative approaches, include, but
are not limited to, STD prevention strategies for HIV control and
micronutrients for the prevention of HIV. Sites may propose more than
one type ofresearch. It is anticipated that six to nine
cost-reimbursement, completion type subcontracts will be awarded for a
period of five (5) years. The electronic version of SFP

this SFP are tentatively set to be submitted on May 5, 1997. Any
responsible offeror may submit a proposal which will be considered by
