REQUIREMENTS FOR ELECTRIC MOTORS The following notification is being
circulated in accordance with Article 10.6.. G/TBT/Notif.96.424. 1.
Member to Agreement notifying: UNITED STATES. If applicable, name of
local government involved (Articles 3.2 and 7.2). 2. Agency
responsible: Department of Energy (65). Agency or authority designated
to handle comments regarding the notification can be indicated if
different from above. 3. Notified under Article 2.9.2. 4. Products
covered (HS or CCCN where applicable, otherwise national tariff
heading. ICS numbers may be provided in addition, where applicable):
Electric motors (HS Chapter 8501.10). 5. Title, number of pages and
language(s) of the notified document: Energy Efficiency Programme for
Certain Commercial and Industrial Equipment: Test Procedures,
Labelling, and Certification Requirements for Electric Motors (36
pages). 6. Description of content: The Energy Policy and Conservation
Act, as amended, establishes energy efficiency standards and test
procedures for commercial and industrial electric motors. The Act also
directs the Department of Energy to establish efficiency labelling
requirements and compliance certification requirements for motors. The
Department proposes regulations to implement these requirements. 7.
Objective and rationale: Energy efficiency. 8. Relevant documents: 61
FR 60440, 27 November 1996; 10 CFR Part 431. Will appear in the Federal
Register when adopted. 9. Proposed date of adoption: To be determined;
