R -- CONTINUING SURVEY OF FOOD INTAKES BY INDIVIDUALS (CSFII) 1999 -- 2001 SOL RFP 02-3K06-97 DUE 042197 POC CONTACT SHARON MARKS, CONTRACT SPECIALIST OR BRENDA WOOD, CONTRACTING OFFICER, AT (301) 344-3125 USDA, Agricultural Research Service intends to procure contractor support in the Continuing Survey of Food Intakes by Individuals (CSFII) 1999-2002. The objective of the survey is to measure types/amounts of food and nutrients consumed by individuals in the U.S. and status of their knowledge regarding diet and health relationships. The contractor is to develop a survey operations plan; conduct research to develop and test new methodology for collecting high quality food intake data and for a telephone mode of data collection; and develop and test a computer-assisted interview system for collection of the data. The contractor is to design national probability samples; train interviewers; and conduct surveys to collect household sociodemographic and food intake data using the new methods and computer-assisted interview system. The contractor is to collect data for individuals from households at all incomes and individuals from low-income households (130 percent of the Federal poverty guidelines or less) in the 50 states and Washington, D.C. The sample is to be designed so that data for individuals from all income and low income households can be combined as well as samples from year to year. The Government anticipates that the number of persons providing complete food intake data will be approximately 15,000 to 16,000 over three years of data collection. Three year long surveys are to be conducted in 2000, 2001, and 2002. The base contract will cover development of the new methods and the computer-assisted interview. Contract options will cover two pilot studies, and data collection for 2000, 2001, and 2002. In addition, an option is anticipated to provide for additional research and survey data collections, if required. (0022)
