USDA, Agricultural Research Service intends to procure contractor
support in the Continuing Survey of Food Intakes by Individuals (CSFII)
1999-2002. The objective of the survey is to measure types/amounts of
food and nutrients consumed by individuals in the U.S. and status of
their knowledge regarding diet and health relationships. The contractor
is to develop a survey operations plan; conduct research to develop and
test new methodology for collecting high quality food intake data and
for a telephone mode of data collection; and develop and test a
computer-assisted interview system for collection of the data. The
contractor is to design national probability samples; train
interviewers; and conduct surveys to collect household sociodemographic
and food intake data using the new methods and computer-assisted
interview system. The contractor is to collect data for individuals
from households at all incomes and individuals from low-income
households (130 percent of the Federal poverty guidelines or less) in
the 50 states and Washington, D.C. The sample is to be designed so that
data for individuals from all income and low income households can be
combined as well as samples from year to year. The Government
anticipates that the number of persons providing complete food intake
data will be approximately 15,000 to 16,000 over three years of data
collection. Three year long surveys are to be conducted in 2000, 2001,
and 2002. The base contract will cover development of the new methods
and the computer-assisted interview. Contract options will cover two
pilot studies, and data collection for 2000, 2001, and 2002. In
addition, an option is anticipated to provide for additional research
and survey data collections, if required. (0022) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0061 19970124\R-0003.SOL)
