COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JANUARY 27,1997 PSA#1769SWEDEN: ORDINANCE ON PRODUCERS' RESPONSIBILITY FOR VEHICLES The
following notification is being circulated in accordance with Article
10.6. G/TBT/Notif.96.448. 1. Member to Agreement notifying: SWEDEN. If
applicable, name of local government involved (Articles 3.2 and 7.2).
2. Agency responsible: Ministry of the Environment. Agency or
authority designated to handle comments regarding the notification can
be indicated if different from above. 3. Notified under Article 2.9.2.
4. Products covered (HS or CCCN where applicable, otherwise national
tariff heading. ICS numbers may be provided in addition, where
applicable): End-of-life vehicles. 5. Title, number of pages and
language(s) of the notified document: Ordinance on Producers'
Responsibility for Vehicles. 6. Description of content: It is the
producers' responsibility to take back vehicles which they have
produced in or imported to Sweden, at the end of their working life.
Producers shall enable those who want to hand in their vehicles to do
so and designate places where end-of-life vehicles can be returned.
Producers shall ensure that material and components from vehicles are
reused or recovered. They shall report the material, components and
chemical products from the vehicle. 7. Objective and rationale: The
following targets for reuse and recovery shall be attained: (1) At
least 85 per cent no later than 2002; and (2) at least 95 per cent no
later than 2015. 8. Relevant documents: None. 9. Proposed date of
adoption: November 1997; Proposed date of entry into force: 1 January
1998. 10. Final date for comments: 19 February 1997. 11. Text available
