REPUBLIC OF KOREA: PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO THE TECHNICAL CRITERIA FOR ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES AND MATERIAL The following notification is being circulated in accordance with Article 10.6. G/TBT/Notif.97.1. 1. Member to Agreement notifying: REPUBLIC OF KOREA. If applicable, name of local government involved (Articles 3.2 and 7.2). 2. Title, number of pages and language(s) of the notified document: Proposed Amendment to the Technical Criteria for Electrical Appliances and Material. 6. Description of content: Testing procedures for ball-pressure application and horizontal burning are devised and implemented to test the plastics which are used as exterior materials for electric appliances. The level oftesting standards is equivalent to those of IEC335, IEC707, UL746A, UL94 and Japanese technical standards. Insulating Materials Registration System is introduced to ensure the effectiveness of the testing. Implementation date: 1998. 1.1.(ball-pressure application test). Amendment to testing method to measure the leakage current of electronic ballast for fluorescent lamp and accelerated test of practical usage. Testing temperature: 85°C-80°C. 7. Objective and rationale: Safety and consumer protection. 8. Relevant documents: Electrical Appliance Safety Control Act. Announcement will appear in the Official Gazette published by the Korean Government. 9. Proposed date of adoption: 10 March 1997; Proposed date of entry into force: 10 March 1997. 10.
