management and operating contractor for the U.S. Department of Energy's
Savannah River Site located near Aiken, South Carolina, is seeking a
partner for a "funds-in" Cooperative Research and Development Agreement
(CRADA) for the further development of its hybrid microwave technology
for vitrification of hazardous electronic components and
reclamation/recycling of precious metals. A new waste treatment process
based on Hybrid Microwave Technology is being patented by WSRC and the
University of Florida. This new technology has been developed to treat
discarded electronic circuitry by (a) reducing the waste volume and
associated disposal costs; (b) immobilizing hazardous components into
leach resistant, environmentally beneficial forms; and (c) reclaiming
precious metals, such as gold and silver, for resale and recycling.
