Integration Branch (WL/FIGP) of the Wright Laboratory's Flight Dynamics
Directorate, is seeking technical contributions to the following
workship: The Human-Electronic Crew: The Right Stuff. A workshop
examining human-computer teamwork to be held in Kreuth, Germany on
22-25 September, 1997. This notice solicits requests for invitations to
an international workshop on human-computer teamwork with an emphasis
on airborne systems. The workshop is sponsored by the following
organizations: German Air Force, Universitat der Bundeswehr, Germany;
Royal Air Force, Defence Research Agency; US Air Force, Wright
Laboratory, Wright-Patterson AFB; The USAF European Office of Aerospace
Research and Development, London, UK. This meeting will be a follow-up
to previously successful meetings (1988, 1990 and 1994) co-sponsored
by the USAF and will provide a valuable forum for the experts of
several countries to measure progress in this critical technical area.
It will also allow for the exchange of newideas, concepts, and data
relative to hardware and software capabilities that can be included in
an aircraft system design, to aid the human operator to perform the
mission. This workshop will be by invitation only and will bring
together experts representing cockpit design disciplines including
hardware and software technologists, as well as human factors
specialists, and pilots to wrestle with questions such as: (1) What are
the core qualities that the Electronic Crewmember must possess? (2) How
does one estimate the amount of software code involved? (3) What are
the key software modules? (4) What is necessary to ensure modules
function symbiotically? (5) What is sufficient functionality within the
Electronic Crewmember to satisfy the human operator's requirements? The
meeting will be unclassified. The meeting will include both paper
presentations and group/workshop discussions. All invitees are expected
to contribute either through formal presentation or through
participation in ensuing discussions. The cost of travel and
accommodations will be borne by the participants. There is a limit of
20 US participants. Closing date for submission is 20 days from the
publication of this notice. Titles with author's name and affiliation,
