IEEE STUDY GROUP MEETING The United States Department of the Navy is soliciting voluntary industry support in co-authoring a new IEEE sponsored industry standard to be referenced in future US Navy Procurements. NO CONTRACT WILL BE AWARDED AS A DIRECT RESULT OF THIS ANNOUNCEMENT. The Microprocessor Standards Committee (MSC) of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineer (IEEE), 345 East 47 Street, New York, New York 10017-2394 has granted the United States Navy's request for a study group to develop a new industry standard, ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR RACK MOUNTED EQUIPMENT. An IEEE Project Authorization Request (PAR) has been requested. The purpose of this standard is to provide common set of specifications for physical integrity, environmental performance levels and test methods for rack mounted computer equipment. The benefit of this standard will be to enable the Navy to competitively procure and retrofit rack mounted computer configurations with newer equipment while reusing the same unmodified racks. The IEEE kickoff meeting will be held from 9:00am to 5:00pm, 18 February 1997, at JD's Training and Conference Center, Building 216, Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD), 17320 Dahlgren Road, Dahlgren, Virginia 22448-5100. Geographic diversity of future meetings is encouraged. Continued participation on this standards committee may result in IEEE fees. The meeting room occupancy is limited to 50 persons.
