The Communications-Electronics Command and the Product Manager for Combat Identification are seeking sources for a compact, lightweight Combat Identification device for the Dismounted Soldier (CIDDS). CIDDS must provide both dismounted combat identification and night target pointing capabilities and must be interoperable with the Army's Tactical Engagement Simulation (TES) systems. This acquisition will develop a standalone capability for the non-Land Warrior Soldier, but it must be interoperable with the Land Warrior embedded version currently being designed under the Land Warrior S&T Program. Currently a technology downselect is underway to recommend the best technical approach to meet CIDDS requirements, consistent with overall battlefield combat identification architecture. A decision is expected during late February 1997. It is planned that a draft statement of work, specification and source selection criteria will be issued for industry comments o/a late February 1997 through the CECOM Electronic Bulletin Board (EBB), with a solicitation planned for release o/a late March 1997.
