348-1810 The Hemispheric Center for Environmental Technology (HCET) at
Florida International University (FIU) is seeking qualified suppliers
to aid in an engineering study for the comparative analysis of
decontamination dismantlement technologies for a variety of test
surrogates. The study is being performed to support the United States
Department of Energy Office of Science and Technology. The study will
be conducted at the campus of FIU in Miami, Florida. The testing
surrogates will be provided by HCET. The surrogates may include pipes,
structural steels, equipment and tanks that would require
dismantlement. The surrogates will not be radiologically contaminated.
Each technology will be tested upon its ability of dismantling given
surrogates. The technologies in the study will include mechanical
dismantlement such as shears, saws and thermal dismantlement such as
oxy propane and thermal arc water jet. All other applicable
technologies are encouraged to respond. The qualified suppliers will be
asked to optimize the operation as it is applied to each surrogate.
Qualified firms shall have five years minimum experience in nuclear
decontamination and two years minimum operations experience with the
proposed technology. The qualified firms are to provide references of
nuclear decontamination jobs completed. Interested firms should send a
Letter of Qualification stating how the firm meets the minimum
requirements, including address, contact person, telephone and fax
numbers to Mr. Leonel E. Lagos, Hemispheric Center for Environmental
Technology at Florida International University, Engineering and Applied
Science, Suite 2100, Miami, Florida 33199 no later than 2/28/97. The
