J -- MAINTENANCE AND HEADSTACK REPLACEMENT ON A MKIIIA HEAD ASSEMBLY SOL 7-4070 POC Sandy Souders/Lawrence Frazier (301) 713-0854 The U.S. Dept. of Commerce/NOS/Geosciences Laboratory intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with Massachusetts Institute of Technology/Haystack Observatory in Westford, Ma. for replacement of a 14 channel, multi-track head assembly for a Mark-3A VLBI tape recorder located at Fortaleza, Brazil. The configuration used for global geodetic VLBI (Very Long Baseline Interferometry) was developed by Haystack Observatory; therefore, the developer is the only supplier of the requested head assemblies. Other offerors that have the ability to provide the above service are invited to submit information as to their capabilities and any other pertinent data to the address above, to be received no later than 15 days after the date of this notice.
