International Procurement Information Home Page,
http://wwwipo.nttinfo.ntt.co.jp. This public notice is to request
suppliers to provide NTT with general referential information on
similar products or technology prior to procurement of the intended
product (mentioned below) by NTT. This public notice is also to request
that any suppliers wishing to participate as a subcontractor in the
procurement program of this product should declare their intentions to
that effect. This public notice is not intended to guarantee public
notification of procurement of the product. (1) Name:Super Large Scale
Wide-area Virtual Network System. (2) Overview: This system consists
of edge nodes, which connect high speed and high flexible ATM backbone
network and fiber optic access networks and / or LANs, and servers
such as connectionless server (hereinafter called "CLS"), address
resolution server (hereinafter called "ARS"), route server (hereinafter
called "RTS") and so on, which support edge nodes. Edge node has
multiple interfaces as a physical port, which supports 1,000
subscribers per 150Mbps, and can accommodate max. 10,000 to 40,000
users.CLS located in backbone network provides connectionless transfer
function between edge nodes free from upper layer protocols. ARS
supports quality guaranteed high speed SVC cut through transfer
function to be provided between edge nodes depending on the required
quality condition of services, congestion condition of network
resources. RTS makes it possible for the network to operate as a
virtual router by managing routing information unitarily related to
edge nodes. By combining these nodes, a super large scale wide-area
virtual network system, which can connect max. 1,000,000 to 10,000,000
users located in wide area and guarantee about 100Kbps throughput to
each users simultaneously, can be constructed. {Supplement (Explanation
of Terms)} CLS : Relaying mechanism of ATM connectionless networks,
which relays cells transmitted by IP packets and MAC flames received
edge node (router and so on) with high-speed. There exists performance
limit in legacy ATM routers on cell assemble / disassemble and routing
software processing. On the other hand, CLS can provide high
performance processing economically by cell level routing. Conference
and broadcast type application are available by real time multicast
services using CLSs. ARS : It is necessary for transmit side edge
device to get the ATM address(E.164 / NSAP format) of the destination
edge device to perform IP over ATM communication using ATM-SVC between
edge nodes (e.g IP host or router) connected to similar or disimilar
IP subnets in the IP network using ATM as transmission media. ARS
informs the ATM address of the destination edge device as a reply
packet based on the request packet with destination IP address from the
transmit side edge device. NHRP (NBMA Next Hop Resolution Protocol),
being studied at IETF, is one of the concrete protocols. RTS : In IP
networks, routing processing function to determine the data
transmission route from the destination address on the networks and
data transfer processing function for the determined route (forwarding)
are needed. In IP networks using route server method, a specific host
/ server performs routing processing concentrately, which is usually
performed by the individual router. This kind of host / server is
called route server and performs followings; (i)Exchange of route
information with user side routers and catch of the whole network
constitution, (ii)Route computation and routing table construction
based on the results, (iii)Download of the routing table to edge nodes.
As a result, source routing, VPN (Virtual Private Network) are easily
supported. OSPF (Open Shortest Path First) / BGP (Border Gateway
Protocol) is one of the service interfaces to the user side routers.
