(SSA) is seeking sources who can provide an automated real-time
warehouse management control system using barcode technology and also
provide the services to fully implement the system. The services to be
provided include performing a wall-to-wall inventory and putting
barcode labels on locations and inventoried items. The current
inventory system supports a data base of 10,000 controlled items in
approximately 25,000 locations, all in the Baltimore, Maryland area.
The new system must provide the ability to process 2,000-3,000 orders
and 5,000 line items daily through the use of portable radio frequency
terminals. The processes include: order picking, stock location
management, shipping and receiving operations, and inventory flow
tracking throughout six warehouses and receiving docks in the Baltimore
area. In addition, the system must support a carousel system for
collating large paper manuals and support Electronic Data Interchange
(EDI) ANSI X.12 Standards. A totalof 100 users will access the
warehouse application through government-supplied Pentium 75 to 120 MHZ
PCs with 32 MB RAM running the Windows NT operating system through an
existing token ring network. Interested firms able to provide the
required technology and services are invited to submit information in
sufficient detail to demonstrate their ability to provide the required
capabilities. Cross-reference to previously submitted material is
discouraged. No cost or pricing data is required or requested. This is
not a request for proposals (RFP) and the Government does not intend
to pay for information submitted. Respondents will not be notified of
the results of the evaluation of data received, but sources deemed
qualified will be solicited when requests for proposals are issued.
Responses to this notice should be submitted in duplicate within 15
days of the publication of this notice and should refer to "Warehouse
