M -- NOTICE OF INTENT TO ISSUE A 2-YEAR CONCESSION CONTRACT -- LAKE MEAD NATIONAL RECREATION AREA POC Teresa Jackson (415) 744-3981. The National Park Service intends to issue a 2-year concession contract to replace the contract which expired on December 31, 1996, at Callville Bay within Lake Mead National Recreation Area. The contract is necessary to allow the continuation of public services during the review and completion period of the planning documents for the park. The National Park Service does not intend to renew this contract for an extended period until planning can be conducted to determine the future direction for concession services at this location within Lake Mead National Recreation Area. The necessary planning process has begun and its conclusion will have a direct affect on the concession services. It is anticipated that this planning process will be concluded within several months. Until the planning process is completed, it will not be in the best interest of Lake Mead National Recreation Area to enter into a long term concession contract. For these reasons, it is the intention of the National Park Service to issue a short term contract at this time, complete the planning process and then to conduct a public contracting process for selection of a concessioner for an extended period.
