Higginbotham (205) 235-7323 (Site Code DAAC01) One shot, one-ounce kit is a sealant used to seal the TOW Missile Capstan Blocks in place to prevent possible loss of guidance during the firing sequence. This item has a sealing and heat resistance quality which is needed for TOW missiles during cold weather launch firing. ONLY contrac tors whose sealant has been tested and approved by U.S. Army Missile Com mand (MICOM) and Hughes Aircraft Company (TOW Missile Systems Engineering) will be considered for performance of specified work. The sealing compound is to be comprised of the following components: silicone rubber resin component, silicone rubber curing agent and silica powder which is to be Hydrophobic (CAB-O-SIL TS-720). The approved product shall successfully perform the following sealing compound test requirements: (1) the compound shall be tested to ensure that it would not sag after application (2) The compound shall be tested to ensure that it will cure to form a tack free surface with 36 hours at room temperature (72 degrees plus or minus 7degrees Fahrenheit) (3) Another sample of material shall be applied to a clean piece of glass or metal substrate. After curing at room, (72 degrees plus or minus 7 degrees Fahrenheit) for 24 or 36 hours, the sealing com pound test sample shall not show a permanent fingerprint impression when light finger pressure is applied (4) The work life of the mixed material shall be approximately one hour. Other test requirements may be applica ble. This is a requirements type contract for a base year option and four option years. Delivery time will be within 30 days after receipt of each delivery order. This is a sole source negotiated procurement with Bacon Industries, Inc., 16731 Hale Avenue, Irvine, California 92714-5092 in accordance with FAR 6.302-1 and 10 U.S.C. 2304(c)(1). The sealant sup plied by Bacon Industries Inc., has been approved by MICOM and Hughes Air craft Company for use on the TOW Missiles. Firms that recognize and can supply the required sealant to be used on the TOW missiles are encouraged to provide supporting evidence and a sample to COMMANDER, U.S. Missile Command, SFAE-MSL-CC-LO, Redstone Arsenal, AL 35898.
