COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF FEBRUARY 12,1997 PSA#1781Defense Special Weapons Agency, 6801 Telegraph Rd., Alexandria, VA
22310-3398 A -- IMPROVED LASER DIODE SOL DSWA01-97-R-0015 POC Jennifer Bertuna,
Negotiator, (703) 325-9368, Edward Archer, Contracting Officer, (703)
325-5028. This contract will be a two phase effort. Phase I will
determine if a revised laser diode structure and/or chemistry augmented
by electronic compensation techniques can be used to expand the
operating temperature range of the laser diode used in the SABER 203
Laser Illuminator, currently under development by the U.S. Air Force.
Phase II will develop a laser diode that will have an emission
wavelength of 630 to 635 nanometers (nm), that will provide a minimum
power output of 100 milliwatts, 150 milliwatts desired, and will work
well in temperatures from -20 degrees to +120 degrees Fahrenheit
without the addition of a thermoelectic cooler. Additionally, the
selected contractor will attempt to minimize localized "hot spots" in
the laser beam geometrics, without external components, in order to
achieve a greater eye safety margin and to present a more uniform exit
beam. This contract will be a total small business set-aside. In order
to receive a copy of the Request for Proposal (RFP) submit your written
request to Jennifer Bertuna at Fax number (703) 325-9291. For more
information contact Jennifer Bertuna at (703) 325-9368. Information on
