STRICOM is conducting a market survey on the availability of systems
that meet the task performance requirements of the Opposing Forces Main
Battle Tank (OPFOR MBT). The OPFOR MBT is a training device and will
not have combat capability. The OPFOR MBT program supports the U.S.
Army Combined Arms Training Strategy as a key element of the Combat
Training Center (CTC) program. The OPFOR MBT is anticipated to be a
tracked vehicle which will respond to the user requirement to replace
the current Opposing Forces primary vehicle system, the M551 Sheridan
Tank. The OPFOR MBT is planned to be a generic representation of a Main
Battle Tank, not specifically based upon any particular threat. It is
anticipated that the OPFOR MBT will require surrogate chassis, visual
modifications (VISMODs), and turret integration to meet the Operational
Requirements Document (ORD). The program anticipates to begin with
Engineering and Manufacturing Development to pursue a modified
commercial solution tofulfill the ORD requirements. This phase is
planned to begin in FY98 at contract award. Proposed contract will be
firm-fixed price conducted within the guidelines of Federal Acquisition
Regulation (FAR) part 12, Acquisition of Commercial Items. The Small

will be updated periodically as information becomes available. To
