70 -- PORTS AND WATERWAYS SAFETY SYSTEM POC Technical POC: Bob Perris (202) 267-2220/Contracting POC: Dawn Burnett (202) 267-6203 WEB: U.S. Coast Guard PAWSS Home Page, http://www.dot.gov/dotinfo/uscg/hq/g-m/mov/.htm. E-MAIL: Contracting POC: Dawn Burnett, dburnett@comdt.uscg.mil. THIS IS AN UPDATE ON THE COAST GUARD'S PORTS AND WATERWAYS SAFETY SYSTEM (PAWSS) PROJECT. In the process of establishing the market of available sources for vessel traffic service (VTS) systems, the Coast Guard is exploring the use of system demonstrations. These demonstrations will be used to identify open architecture and commercial off-the-shelf technology. It is anticipated that the demonstrations will be one-half day in length each, and will be conducted in CONUS. THE INTENTION IS TO USE THESE DEMONSTRATIONS AS A GATEWAY FOR FURTHER CONSIDERATION UNDER THE PAWSS PROCUREMENT. We are soliciting industry comments and recommendations on how the demonstrations should be conducted (e.g., most cost-effective manner for both the Government and industry), and possible discriminators. The Coast Guard anticipates providing sensor data on tape, possibly from multiple types of sensors, using various types of scenarios. Advance copies of the tape(s) will be provided for use by interested sources in preparing their system for the demonstration. Every interested source will be given the same amount of time before their scheduled demonstration to use the tape(s). Other PAWSS news: As a follow-up to our recent VTS Technology Symposium, the Coast Guard invites any interested firm to visit U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters (CGHQ) to provide additional information on their VTS system. The Coast Guard also invites any firm that did not participate in the VTS Technology Symposium to visit CGHQ and brief their system. The PAWSS home page is now up and running, and can be found at http://www.dot.gov/dotinfo/uscg/hq/g-m/mov/.htm. Anticipated project milestones are: Radio Technical Commission for Maritime Services (RTCM) -- 27 April -- 2 May 1997; Systems Demonstrations/Pre-qualifications -- July 1997; Report to Congress -- September 1997; Solicitation Release -- 1st Quarter FY98 (subject to availability of funding). The Coast Guard intends to release draft pieces of the RFP package for industry comment as they are developed for industry comment.
