Officer, Randolph L. Kesling The Department of Energy's (DOE) Federal
Energy Technology Center (FETC) plans to issue a Program Research and
Development Announcement (PRDA) No. DE-RA21-97MC34175 entitled "High
Temperature MWD/LWD Development." The objective of the procurement will
be to develop new or improve existing MWD/LWD systems for improved
capabilities in high temperature drilling environments. This work is in
support of present day deeper exploration drilling needs such as those
being encountered in the Austin Chalk drilling in Texas and
Lousisiana. Proposals will be requested in one or more of the following
three development areas: (1) MWD higher temperature limit focus
(increase operating limits to 195 degree centigrades or higher)(2)MWD
improved component availability focus (3) LWD higher temperature limit
focus (175 degrees centigrades minimum). An information package
containing additional details on the PRDA research areas and objectives
is available on the Internet at

available via Internet and will not be distributed in paper form.
Comments on the proposed research areas and objectives are encouraged
and welcomed; one of the purposes of this announcement is to solicit
comments prior to release of the entire solicitation. All comments
should be submitted to Ms. Mary S. Gabriele at the address (via mail,
email, or fax) above and should identify the Solicitation number.
Comments by phone will not be honored. Requests for the entire
solicitation package should also be forwarded at this time to the
address (via mail, email, or fax) noted above. Official release of the
entire solicitation is anticipated on or about March 17, 1997 with
