The National Institute of Standards and Technology(NIST) intends to negotiate with Corning, Inc., Canton, N.Y. for purchase of the following items: 210 specimens of 7980 Fused Silica (Patent numbers US5043002 and US5152819) in varied dimensions and from different boules & 45 specimens of 7940 Fused Silica (Patent number 2272342) in varied dimensions and from different boules. This requirement is being met under the authority of 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1); only one known responsible source. The Ceramics Laboratory at the NIST Gaithersburg, MD facility requires these materials to perform static fatigue experiments, slow crack growth and critical stress intensity factor experiments.
