U-MEETING ON ASSESSMENT ISSUES The United States Department of Education will hold a public meeting on the development of national tests in 4th grade reading and 8th grade mathematics on Friday February 28, 1997 from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm. This meeting will take place in the Barnard Auditorium, on the second floor of the Departments Headquarter Building at 600 Independence Ave., SW, Washington, D.C. This meeting will include discussion related to the development and use of these tests by a panel of State and Local Educators. Following the discussion, there will be a time to address questions from the public. An electronic summary will later be placed on the Department's Web Site, http://www.ed.gov. All interested parties are invited to attend.
