366-4226 The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is soliciting
applications from educational institutions that have on-going programs
using finite element methods for structural analysis. Educational
institutions that are knowledgeable and fluent in the use and
application of nonlinear, contact-impact, finite element code, DYNA3D,
are of particular interest to the FHWA. This assistance program
involves the development of finite element models of roadside safety
structures and models of the components and materials from which they
are fabricated. The primary objective of this program is to develop and
verify roadside safety structure, component, and material models for
use with the finite element code DYNA3D. A secondary purpose of this
program is to stimulate interest and involvement in highway safety
vehicle crash analysis from a variety of universities and university
departments. University departments new to this program, as well as
those that have previously participated, are encouraged to apply. Up to
seven Cooperative Agreements may be issued under this announcement.
Competition for this assistance program is limited to educational
institutions. All covered sources may submit an application package
which will be considered. To receive a copy of application materials
submit a written request to the address indicated above. Please furnish
two self-addressed gummed labels for each application package
requested. The solicitation number should appear on the bottom edge of
