16 -- AIRCRAFT MISSION COMPUTER AND DISPLAYS POC Contact, LISA JONES, Phone (703)604-2119 On a sole source basis, the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) intends to contract with McDonnell Douglas Aerospace (MDA) Division of St. Louis, Missouri 63166-0516, for the Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD), integration and low rate initial production of an Advanced Mission Computer and Display (AMC&D) system. The AMC&D will consist of a mission computer, display processor and 5x5 display head with options for other display head sizes. The AMC&D system will replace the AN/AYK-14 Mission Computer and the 5x5 Multi-Purpose Display Indicator (MDI), the Multi-Purpose Display Repeater Indicator (MDRI), and Multi-Purpose Color Display (MPCD) presently installed in the F/A-18C/D/E/F Aircraft. The AMC&D will be developed using an open systems architecture and modular approach to fill the need for other military aircraft's mission computer and display/display processing subsystems. The AMC&D EMD effort will consist of physical, electrical, mechanical, cooling, functional design, integration and flight test of the AMC&D system. MDA is the F/A-18 prime contractor responsible for Operational Flight Program upgrades and modifications as well as avionic system integration onto the aircraft. MDA is the sole manufacturer of the F/A-18 and the only contractor who has the knowledge, experience and technical data required to successfully design and integrate the AMC&D into the F/A-18 Weapon Systems, the lead aircraft platform for the AMC&D program. See note No. 22 -- NAVAIR Synopsis No. 50012-97. (0057)
