University of Montana has available a Request for Proposal (RFP) for
the bench-scale demonstration of innovative remediation technologies
for treating contaminated water existing in the Berkeley Pit located in
Butte, Montana. The Berkeley Pit is an inactive open-pit copper mine
that currently contains over 25 billion gallons of heavy metal-laden,
acidic mine water. This RFP will be Phase II of the Berkeley Pit
Innovative Technologies (BPIT) Project, which is implemented by MSE-TA,
Inc., and administered by the Mine Waste Technology Program (MWTP) at
Montana Tech. The BPIT Project was initiated to provide a channel for
existing acid mine water remediation technologies to be demonstrated on
Berkeley Pit was in bench-scale laboratory tests. Bench-scale
demonsstration tests can be done at the Montana Tech campus using
Montana Tech facilities or at the subcontractors facility. A report
summarizing the process and results of each bench-scale demonstration
will be sent to EPA Region 8 Field Office, the EPA National Risk
Management Research Laboratory, Cincinnati, Ohio, and the Department of
energy (DOE) Resource Recovery Project, also administrated by MSE-TA,
Inc. Bids are not to exceed $25,000. Successful bidders will be awarded
fixed price subcontracts. Further details, proposal format, and
evaluation criteria are detailed in the RFP. This RFP is open to all
