U.S. Department of Commerce/National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, OFA, Acquisition Management Division, General Contracts Branch, 1325 East-West Highway, Station 4301:EFT, Silver Spring, Maryland 20910-3283

66 -- SIGNAL PROCESSING SYSTEM INTERFACE SPECIFICATION DUE 032097 POC Mary Watson (301) 713-0823, Edward F. Tennant, Jr., Contracting Officer (301) 713-0823 The NOAA/National Weather Service (NWS) is not presently pursuing the Radiosonde Replacement System that would utilize Global Positioning System (GPS) technology due to budgetary constraints, but is seeking comments on the Signal Processing System Interface Specification (non-GPS). The next upgrade to the existing upper air network will be non-GPS based and will interface to the Advanced Weather Information Processing System (AWIPS) type workstation. A subset of the duties of the AWIPS type workstation will be to acquire upper air meteorological data gathered at each upper air site within the upper air observing network. The network is comprised of approximately 103 sites which cover the conterminous United States, Alaska, the Caribbean, and parts of the Pacific. The network is comprised of all necessary equipment to track and collect profiles on pressure, relative humidity, wind speed, and wind direction from surface to heights of 36 kilometers. The Signal Processing System receives and processes thisdata from the radiosonde and provides it to the AWIPS type workstation. The interface between the workstation and the Signal Processing System is described in the Draft Signal Processing System Interface Specification (non-GPS). Parties interested in reviewing and commenting on the Draft Signal Processing System Interface Specification (non-GPS) should submit a written request no later than March 20, 1997 to the attention of Mary Watson at the above address. The Government will not pay for any effort expended by industry in reviewing and commenting on the Draft Signal Processing System Interface Specification (non-GPS). The Government will not award a contract as a result of this CBD announcement. Notice of any solicitation for the Signal Processing System and/or its Interface will be published in the CBD prior to the issuance of the solicitation. (0060)
