70 -- DIGITAL TAPE RECORDER TECHNOLOGY POC John DiRito, (605) 594-6885 This is not a notice for a solicitation. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), EROS Data Center (EDC), Sioux Falls, SD wishes to evaluate new high speed and capacity digital tape recorder technology. The tape recorder must have both a SCSI computer interface and an instrumentation serial data interface compatible with Ampex DCRSi tape recorders used by EDC to record and playback the LANDSAT data archive. Data transfer rates in the serial instrumentation mode must be 120 Mb/sec. or greater, data transfer rates for the computer SCSI interface to be 15 MB/sec or greater, and cartridge capacity should be at least 165 MB. The evaluation period will be for 120 days with the vendor providing the tape recorder, 12 tape cartridges, interface cables for connection to a DCRSi, SCSI cable for SGI computer, software drivers for SGI computer running IRIX 5.3 or 6.2, operations manual, training and support during the evaluation period. This equipment will only be used for testing, it will not be used for production purposes. Evaluation does not constitute endorsement.
