The Aviation Applied Technology Directorate (AATD), U.S. Army Aviation and Troop Command (ATCOM), proposes to award a purchase order entitled "Ballistic Tolerant Stiffeners Program". The objective of the program is to fabricate or provide a helicopter representative primary structure, such as a tailboom or a fuselage to tailboom transition section, both with and without Z-pinning, in order to evaluate the Z-pinning effectiveness. The objectives associated with DOD Rotary Wing Goals of the Technology Area Plan are to achieve significant improvements in fabrication cost, structural efficiency, and survivability. The implementation of the Z-pinning process could contribute toward achieving these goals. The program will consist of a 15 month technical effort.
