COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MARCH 5,1997 PSA#1795Commander, U.S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station, Corps of
Engineers, 3909 Halls Ferry Road, Vicksburg, MS 39180 A -- REPOSITONABLE PISTON-TYPE SPECTRAL WAVE GENERATORS SOL
DACW39-97-R-0009 DUE 031897 POC Sandra Staggs, Contract Specialist,
601/634-3698 The USAE Waterways Experiment Station (WES) proposes to
award a contract to MTS Systems Corporation, Eden Prairie, MN, under
authority of 10 USC 2304(c)(1) for the fabrication, delivery and
installation of 3 totally electric, unidirectional, repositionable,
piston-type spectral wave generators with pertinent physical dimensions
as follows: (a)wave board height, 4.667 length in feet, 1.42 length in
meters, (b) wave board length without extenders, 15 feet in length,
4.57 length in meters, (c) wave board length with extenders, 25 feet in
length, 7.62 length in meters, (d) upper height of frame, 5.83 feet in
length, 1.78 length in meters, and (e) length from retracted wave
board to rear of frame, 10.55 length in feet, and 3.22 length in
meters. In addition the wave machines must be constructed so that all
performance aspects are 100% compatible with the existing wave machine
and software being used in the Longshore Sediment Transport Facility
(LSTF). The wave machines must be constructed such that key components
will have an estimated life of 3,000 hours continuous use. Acquisition
of these additional wave generators is necessary to complete
development of the LSTF. These additional generators will increase the
wavefront from its present 100 feet to 175 feet, a criticial
requirement for modeling coastal structures and their effect on
navigation, sediment deposition, and erosion. Because the new wave
machines must operate in concert with the existing wave machines, it is
imperative that performance specifications, electronic control systems,
and overall dimensions match the existing machines perfectly. The
existing wave machines were purchased under contract from MTS in 1995.
In the event no other sorces are found the Government intends to award
a contract as stated above. Solicitation document are not available.
