TASK FORCE XXI SYMPOSIUM, MAY 19-21, 1997 The Fort Monmouth Chapter of the AUSA will hold its Sixth Biennial Symposium, 19-21 May 1997 at the Ocean Place Hilton in Long Branch, New Jersey. The theme is "Task Force XXI -- a HOT WASH Review." There will be three sessions: "TF XXI -- Battlefield Functional Area Perspective," "TF XXI -- Tactical Internet," and "The Next Step(s) -- Division XXI." Task Force (TF) XXI is a force organized around information and information technology. AUSA's Institute for Land Warfare has defined the challenge to the TF XXI commander as responding to change. Technological superiority on the battlefield is the exploitation of real time force projection information by field commanders who can utilize this information to out-maneuver, out-shoot, and out-think the enemy. The TF XXI commander must be a master in demonstrating the skills to customize precise digitized information. This year, the symposium will bring together the Army's leadership and industry leadership. Maj. Gen. Gerard P. Brohm, CG, U.S. ArmyCECOM serves as the Symposium General Chairman, supported by Maj. Gen. William H. Campbell, Program Executive Officer (PEO) for Command, Control, and Communications Systems and Maj. Gen. David R. Gust, PEO Intelligence and Electronic Warfare Sensors. The Symposium serves as the In Process Review of Task Force XXI Army Warfighter Equipment (AWE) while providing insight into the next phases of Force XXI and a road map of the Army's path to Division XXI. Invited Army leaders, Lt. Gen. John E. Miller, Deputy CG TRADOC; Lt. Gen. Otto J. Guenther, DISC4; MG Paul J. Kern, CG 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized); and COL Thomas R. Goedcoop, Commander of the 1st Brigade of the 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized) will discuss the actual results of the AWE, their personal experiences, and their expectations. The Army's AWE initiatives, level of achievement, and future plans to overcome any shortfalls to ensure success with Division XXI will also be major points of discussion. Other participants include ABCS Program Managers and their industry counterparts and additional senior Army leadership from both the Materiel and Combat Development communities. The BFA and the Tactical Internet Panels will explore the lessons learned from the design, development and deployment of the Tactical Internet, BFA interoperability, monitoring and control of the TF XXI assets and systems, application of key battlefield functionality, and the many battlefield enhancements associated with the approximately ninety initiatives demonstrated during TF XXI.
