Three of the X-ray systems owned and opeated by the U. S. Customs
Service (USCS) are located in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. To
meet the minimum functional requirements which satisfy USCS operational
needs, they must be modified. All models of the systems were designed
and manufactured by American Science and Engineering (AS&E),
Incorporated, using their patented MICRO-DOSE Flying Spot Scanning Beam
technology. AS&E is the sole manufacturer of the resources to modify
the systems as required. The requirement will be processed under the
authority of 10 USC 2304(c)(1), only one responsible source and no
other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements. The
intended source is AS&E, 829 Middlesex Turnpike, Billerica, MA 01821.
