202-927-0423 Document Readers. This notice amends a previous CBD
announcement which appeared on 2/18/97. The following
paragraph/description for these document readers is hereby added. The
multi-document readers must be capable of reading machine readable
passports, visas, and identity documents in 3 seconds or less, and
capable of reading multi-line documents that conform to the principles
of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) 9303 and the
International Standards Organization (ISO) 7501 standards. The reader
shall be capable of performing OCR on machine readable documents in the
B 900 range which is at the near infra-read portion of the spectral
band as defined in the ISO 1831 standards. The doucment reader shall be
certified by SITA for use with CUTE2 used by the airline carriers
through the airline reservation system. It shall be the responsibility
of the vendor to obtain the exact specifications from SITA.
Confirmation of certification must be provided as part of the proposal
submission. The multi-document reader must uutilize EIA RS232C/CCITT
V.24 communications interfae to an operator workstation. As indicated
earlier, the solicitation CS-97-019 is expected to be released in about
