The U.S. Agency for International Development in the Dominican Republic seeks an organization to implement the HIV/AIDS/STD component of the Mission's strategic objective in Health. The proposed cooperative agreement assistance mechanism will cover the period July 1997 through September 2002, with a possible extension up to an additional 2 years without further competition. It is anticipated that funding for this cooperative agreement may be about $9 million over the five year period, subject to the future availability of funds. The recipient is expected to provide for the following: Management of a five year sub-grant program to Dominican NGOs and other community groups; assistance for institution building and strengthening of NGOs with a focus on sustainability; technical assistance and training to NGOs and the National AIDS Program; serve as a catalyst for agencies and NGOs involved in HIV/AIDS/STD activities; and serve as a advocacy leader in mobilizing all sectors of the Dominican society in the fight against HIV/AIDS. It is anticipated that the RFA will be available after March 7, 1997.
