Features of the CFD tool to be commercialized shall include: 1) use of
a unified grid methodology (structured, unstructured, and hybrid), 2)
portability of the software to a wide range of platforms including
High Performance Computers utilizing Massively Parallel Processing
(MPP), 3) applicability to modeling and analysis of steady and unsteady
flows in compressible and incompressible flow environments, and 4)
flexibility to rapidly incorporate new physical and numerical models.

MULTIPHASE COMBUSTION: The Air Force has sponsored research in
catalytic and multiphase combustion for aerospace propulsion
applications. These technologies can be transferred to the
non-aerospace industries, where their use will ultimately benefit the
Air Force via increased efficiencies, reduced costs, and reduced
environmental impact. This "spin-off" effort will facilitate transition
of the technologies by adaptation of existing catalytic and multiphase
combustion models to non-aerospace applications. As a result, the
contractor will be able to market the models to the commercial,
non-aerospace industry. Modeling the effect of catalysis in combustion
systems (using metals such as platinum) requires catalytic
heterogeneous and gas homogenous chemical reaction mechanisms and
computational tools. Existing catalytic models (reduced chemical
kinetic models) developed for the aerospace industry can be extended to
the following non-aerospace applications: 1) use of catalysts to
enhance fuel reactivity in all natural gas-based combustion systems
such as automotive engines, furnaces and power generation engines, 2)
use of catalysts in exhaust gas emissions reduction such as nitric
oxides (NOx) and carbon monoxide (CO) in automotive, residential and
industrial furnaces, power plants and waste incinerators, and 3) use of
catalysts to improve air quality by converting harmful chemical
compounds to non-harmful compounds. Multiphase combustion modeling and
simulation requires accurate description of the physical phenomena
along with efficient state-of-the-art computational tools. Existing
models (droplet and evaporative models) can be extended to following
non-aerospace applications: 1) use of multiphase algorithms to model
hydrocarbon liquid fuel sprays in liquid-fuel ground-based gas turbine
power generator and automotive engines, and 2) use of multiphase
algorithms to model sprays in spray painting, pesticide, milk powder,
food processing industries. Estimated value $200,000.00. Technical POC:

Anticipated Period of Performance: Proposals should include schedules
and budgets for a base term not to exceed 36 months, unless otherwise
specified in the specific topic area. Priced options for an additional
period of up to 24 months may be submitted. The Government may fund
both base term and options from the present appropriation depending on
the content of the proposal, the availability of funds, the fit with
other programs and any other considerations necessary to establish and
maintain program coherence and balance. The Government may also choose
to condition the exercise of options on the availability of future year
appropriations or other funding sources. (2) Expected Award Date: Sep

review and final stages of the selection process, some offerors may be
asked to provide clarification and/or oral presentations to members of
the selection panel or to travel to Wright Patterson Air Force Base,
OH, or other location for an interview. WL also reserves the right to
