The University of California, which operates the Los Alamos National
Laboratory (LANL) under contract to the Department of Energy (DOE),
solicits statements of interest from private organizations wishing to
participate in a program to retrieve excess Americium/Beryllium neutron
sources from industry, universities, and government agencies. The
proposed private organization role in the program would be to collect
sources identified as excess, stage the sources as appropriate, and
provide consolidated shipment to LANL. All of these activities must be
accomplished in strict compliance with all applicable rules and
regulations of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), DOE, and
State and Federal nuclear materials control agencies. Any organization
possessing the appropriate nuclear materials license(s) and an
interest in the above subject should respond with a statement of intent
describing the organization's technical expertise, financial resources
and motivation for participating in this program. Thestatement must be
dated within fourteen (14) calendar days of the date of this notice.
