COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MARCH 7,1997 PSA#1797

BRIEFING TO INDUSTRY-OBJECTIVE SNIPER PROGRAM (OSP) The Joint Service Small Arms Program (JSSAP) of the U. S. Army Tank Automotive and Armaments Command -- Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (TACOM-ARDEC) will host a Government/Industry/Academia interchange on ARDEC's recently initiated Objective Sniper Weapon (OSW) Program. The primary purpose of this interchange is for ARDEC to update industry and academia on strategy and progress to date on the OSW program, and to solicit subsequent comments/suggestions. This interchange is scheduled for March 18, 1997 at ARDEC Headquarters, Building One, third floor conference room from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M., and will be the first of several that ARDEC will convene on a regularly scheduled basis throughout the course of the two year technology program. The first interchange meeting will discuss the origins of the OSW system goals, as well as the overarching output of the OSW technology assessment that was completed in 1QFY97. Elements of the on-going technology program will be reported on in terms of work package objectives, deliverables, and status to date. Specific program elements to be reported on include weapon/ammunition parametric effects investigations, wind sensing feasibility investigations, and a baseline sniper performance experiment which is considered a cornerstone to the entire technology program. Output from these activities will feed a front end analysis and trade-off determination effort in FY 98 leading to a decision on the viability of initiating a formal system development program in FY 99. It is believed that a Government/Industry/Academia partnership during this initial technology maturation phase will facilitate any follow-on system development program, should one occur. Interested parties should contact Bob Schlenner, TACOM-ARDEC, at (201) 724-6236 to confirm attendance. WEB: US Army TACOM-ARDEC ProcNet, http://procnet.pica.army.mil/procacts.htm.
