office will issue Invitation for Bids for the construction of NL
INDUSTRIES/TARACORP SUPERFUND SITE, GRANITE CITY, ILLINOIS. Bids will
be opened on or about 23 April 1997. This solicitation is restricted to
8a Contractors in Region V. Prospective bidders will be given a
conducted tour of the construction site on April 2, 1997 at 10:00 a.m..

Bidders will not be given individual access to the construction site.
The work will include the following: (Approx. quantities) REMOVALS
include: 30 drums (drosses from smelting operations); 39 drums (soil,
drill cuttings & personnel protective equipment); 96,750 SF bituminous
pavement; 6300 SF concrete pavement; Dross kettles, battery crusher
and various buildings;railroad tracks; chain-link fence; excavation and
placement of 4,050 CY of battery casing materials; utilities; and
trees. NEW WORK includes: 6.5 acre landfill cap [6 inches topsoil, 18
inches select fill, geogrid, geocomposite drainage layer (geotextile
filter / geonet / geotextile filter), geomembrane barrier layer,
geosynthetic clay liner, random fill layer and bottom liner & leachate
collection system]; excavation (1-3 feet depth) and placement of lead
contaminated soil beneath landfill cap; 3200 LF FE6-TR-72 chain link
fence; 1100 LF retaining wall (concrete and metal sheet pile);
bituminous paving for Taracorp access road; 8-inch crushed rock
surfacing for Access roads "A" and "B"; concrete paving for approach to
Access road "A"; 1100 LF 8-inch subdrain lines; erosion control silt
fence; 660 LF 12-inch storm drain lines; seeding of disturbed areas;
Safety and Health requirements in compliance with 29 CFR 1910.120. The
estimated construction cost of this project is between $5,000,000 and
$7,500,000. Contractor's Quality Control will be a requirement in this
contract. The Contractor will be required to commence work within 10
days after notice to proceed and complete the work 540 calendar days
after receipt of Notice to Proceed. Provisions will be included for
liquidated damages in case of failure to complete the work in the time
allowed. Performance and payment bonds will be required. All requests
for solicitation packages should be made in writing and no later than
14 days prior to bid opening. After such time, packages will be
furnished if supply is available. It has been determined that the
number of sets be limited to one (1) per firm. An order blank for
